Many bands have incorporated such things as "like", Which is a link to the social networking site Facebook. This is a brilliant strategy because hundreds of millions of people use Facebook, including ourselves. There are other likes such as twitter, and youtube. And in the example i will be talking about in a second, They have a link to Itunes which takes you straight to the link to download their new album.
My example here is again from The Kooks (thought i would follow a trend). The Kooks website is a prime example of how convergence and synergy have come together to create a great marketing strategy.
When you first enter the site, you are greeted by a banner which takes up pretty much the majority of your screen. The banner actually alternates between 3 pictures, two of which are of the band. However the other one is of an up-coming concert the Kooks will be attending.
The second thing you can notice is a video that does not play automatically. This is just below the banner. This video is a song of theirs. This is a good idea, which many band have incorporated into their websites. A really goodexample of this is the first website White Lies ever made. their website literally only consisted of a song that played automatically as soon as you went onto the website, literally nothing else apart from a black screen. This caused massive hype and wonder for the band before they launched themselves, and have now got a proper website advertising themselves like other bands.
Finally, at the bottom of the webpage you have all the latest news of The Kooks and what they are up too, which is up to date. And also you have a link to their blog. The use of a blog is a good idea because the band would constantly report to their fans, making the relationship with their fans more personal.
