Theodor Adorno

He argued that culture industry products were being fed by capitalism which is known to be the opposite of true art. He also suggested that they've replaced difficult art forms with unsophisticated forms of art which might question the social life form.
False needs are created by the culture industry which are replaced by true needs such as freedom, human potential, creativity and happiness. These features are true within the music industry today, the audience are believed to be consuming the true emotion by them.
Standardisation characterises popular music products and pseudo-individualisation. Adorno sees culture industry products as cathartic even if it may be moving, we might seek some emotional comfort from a sad song or film and then feel ok again.

A collection of marxist philosophers were based at frankfurt school in the 20th century, they were concerned with the role of pop culture in exploiting the masses and maintaining power. Their work represents the first attempt to write about popular music.

This relates to our video as the characters Brett and Jermaine want to become rappers in our narrative and it may relate to some audience members as a false need. Hence why it could help the audience believe they want to become rappers just like Brett and Jermaine, despite how bad they could be at it.
